Most Common Ariston Dryer Faults: Symptoms, Causes & What You Can Try

The whole secret of a dryer is one thing: hot air circulating, picking up moisture, then getting rid of it. Most faults we receive are blockages in that air path — the rest are motor and sensors. For each fault: symptoms, causes in order, and one safe step before you call.

Running but not drying — or taking hours

Symptoms

the program ends and clothes are still wet, or a one-hour dry now takes three.

Causes

a clogged lint filter — the undisputed #1, a condenser needing a wash, lint-blocked airways, a humidity sensor coated in limescale or detergent, or oversized loads.

Try safely

clean the lint filter thoroughly, rinse the condenser under water if your model's is removable, reduce the load and retry. Weak drying after cleaning = heater and sensor check — the free inspection covers it.

Overheating and cutting out mid-program

Symptoms

sudden stops mid-cycle, a hotter-than-normal body, and it agrees to run again after cooling.

Causes

the thermal cut-out tripping protectively because hot air has no exit — the real cause usually clogged filters or condenser, a weak fan, or a dryer placed with no ventilation.

Try safely

clean filter and condenser, leave space around the dryer, try a lighter load. Repeated tripping afterwards = thermostat and fan check — constant tripping stresses the heater itself, so don't leave it.

Drum not turning, motor humming

Symptoms

you hear the motor hum on start, but the drum stays still — or turns stiffly then stops.

Causes

a snapped or slipped belt — the most common mechanical dryer fault, a failed tension pulley, or a weakened motor capacitor.

Try safely

unplug and turn the drum by hand — if it spins unusually freely with no resistance, the belt has likely snapped. A genuine belt with a pulley check is a one-visit job; don't keep running it while humming — it loads the motor.

No water collecting in the tank, or leaks underneath

Symptoms

on condenser models — an empty tank after full cycles (though clothes dry), or the opposite: water leaking underneath, or the "tank full" light on with an empty tank.

Causes

a failed tank pump, a blocked or slipped internal hose, a stuck float or tank sensor, or a tank reseated wrongly after emptying.

Try safely

refit the tank until it clicks, and check under the dryer. Persistent leaks or the tank light = pump and sensor check — simple parts that need correct disassembly.

Squealing or knocking during rotation

Symptoms

a sharp continuous squeal, or regular knocking with each drum turn, louder with load.

Causes

worn drum support rollers — the top squeal source, a cracking belt, drum bearings, or a small object (button/coin) caught in the drum path.

Try safely

always empty pockets, and run the dryer empty for a minute — if the noise disappears it came with the clothes; if it stays, rollers or bearings. Delaying turns an annoying noise into far costlier drum-shaft damage.

Not starting at all, or stopping after seconds

Symptoms

no response at all, or it starts for seconds then stops.

Causes

the door lock not sensing closure (a run condition), a full water tank triggering protection (condenser models), socket or cable, a thermal fuse permanently blown after past overheating, or the control board.

Try safely

empty and refit the tank, close the door until it clicks, try a direct socket with no extension. If it persists = lock, fuse and board check — a blown thermal fuse also says an overheating cause must be fixed with it.

Common Ariston Dryer Error Codes

Digital Ariston models show F-codes on the display — older models speak in light blinks. The codes we see most on dryers, their meaning, and the first safe action:

Common codes (may vary by model and generation)

We Repair Every Ariston Dryer Type

  • Condenser dryers: the most widespread — condensing moisture into a tank with no drain hose; common faults: condenser, pump and water tank.
  • Heat-pump dryers: the energy savers — gentler low-heat drying, with a cooling circuit like a fridge that we test with gauges.
  • Vented dryers on older models: heater, thermostat and air path.
  • Washer-dryers: the drying side — heater, sensors and condensing circuit, with their F13–F15 codes.

How Our Dryer Service Works

  1. 1

Call 16062 or WhatsApp the model and fault — mention the dryer type (condenser/heat pump) if known, and any code.

  2. 2

5 Technician Tips That Extend Your Dryer's Life

  1. 1Clean the lint filter after every use — not weekly: every use. Thirty seconds prevent most drying and heat faults outright.
  2. 2Rinse the condenser under water monthly if your model's is removable — the lint that passes the filter collects there.
  3. 3Empty the water tank after every cycle — a full tank stops the program midway and leaves clothes wet.
  4. 4Leave ventilation space around the dryer and never run it in a closed damp room — the air around it is what dries your clothes.
  5. 5Never dry items with rubber, foam or oil residues — a real fire risk, and they coat the humidity sensors too.

Ariston Dryer Repair FAQ

What is the Ariston dryer service number?

The short number 16062 — 24/7 for all governorates. You can also WhatsApp the model and fault to 01050887010 for a free initial diagnosis before the visit.

Clothes come out damp — what should I clean before calling?

Two things in order: the lint filter (wash under water and dry it), and the condenser if your model's is removable (rinse it fully). Then try a light load — if drying returns, done; if still weak, it's likely the heater or humidity sensor, which the free inspection covers.

Condenser vs heat pump — does repair cost differ?

Condenser is simpler: heater, fans and a pump. Heat pump has a full cooling circuit like a fridge (compressor and gas) and some of its faults are more complex — but not all: filters, sensors and belts are identical in both. Either way the inspection is free and the full price is quoted before any work.

Do you repair the drying side of washer-dryers?

Yes — washer-dryers have their own team: drying-side faults (heater, sensors, condensing circuit) repaired with genuine parts, and their F13–F15 codes are our specialty.

Are you the official Ariston agent?

We are a specialized Ariston service center, not the official agent — repair with genuine parts and a written 6-month warranty is our specialty. Under the purchase warranty, use the entity on your certificate; out of warranty, we reach you faster with the same part quality.

How much does an Ariston dryer repair cost?

It depends on the fault and parts: the inspection is always free and the full final price is announced before any work — decide not to repair and you pay nothing, with no hidden call-out fees.
